The 4th Annual CBF Investing in Justice Campaign was a record-breaking success, with an almost 50% increase in the number of participating firms and organizations, a significant increase in the number of individual donors, and a new record amount raised of more than $1.1 million.
The success of this community-wide initiative in a tough economic climate is a real testament to the inspiring leadership of our Campaign Chair, Chuck Douglas, our dedicated Campaign leadership team, and the growing number of committed supporters from throughout Chicago’s legal community.
Thanks to the generous support of more than 2,500 individual contributors and 80 participating law firms and organizations, the CBF was able to award a total of $1.12 million in grants to 36 pro bono and legal aid organizations in the Chicago area as a result of this year’s Campaign. 100% of funds raised went directly for CBF grant support to a total of 36 pro bono and legal aid organizations serving the Chicago area. In making the Campaign grants to these organizations, the CBF gave priority to general operating support, which is especially crucial to these organizations right now, and support for innovative projects that leverage significantly more funding and pro bono resources for this work. The Campaign grants fund a comprehensive range of services to many thousands of people in need for a wide variety of legal issues.
Those receiving services as a result of Campaign grants include the elderly, disabled, veterans and children; domestic violence victims; people at risk of losing their homes; immigrants fleeing persecution and abuse; and many other low-incomeand disadvantaged people in the Chicago area in critical need of legal assistance.
The Campaign grants fund a continuum of services to these people in need, ranging from web-based information and resources to legal aid hotlines to advice desks and clinics to extended representation to significant impact litigation.
Thanks to the success of the 2010 Campaign, thousands of people in need will be able to get critical help, the justice system will work better for everyone, and our community is a fairer and better place for all of us as a result.
